BIM modeling and steel detailed design and FEM
A detailed modeling of the steel and concrete structures was carried out. The project achieved a Level of Development (LOD) E, as specified by UNI 11337-4.
After defining the overall design and the main components of the project, a detailed BIM model of the end crossbeams was required to address several interrelated aspects, including:
Technical and Geometrical Analysis:
- Defining the plates and elements for the transverse restraint system, ensuring alignment with the steel structures and the concrete of the piers.
- Positioning bolts and stiffening plates to allow for the future installation of jacks for maintenance operations.
- Optimizing the size of the longitudinal element that serves as the support point for the overlying slab by refining the design of the crossbeam components.
Structural Analysis:
- Defining the mechanical properties of the components (profiles, thicknesses, steel type, bolt type, and diameter) to ensure adequate resistance against the stresses identified through calculation models.
- Specifying the type and intrinsic characteristics of special elements such as the bearing system and the transverse restraint system. These elements, uniquely defined by the manufacturer, interact closely with the steel superstructures.
